Now is Not the Time to Slow Down

Why we need to act with urgency, even in an emergency

There is an interesting division in the world right now when it comes to productivity. On the one hand, you have a pile of people unable to work, or go hang out at the places they usually do, that are now sitting at home binging Netflix and complaining on social media. On the other side, you’ve got medical workers working insane hours – overwhelmed with crowded hospitals, delivery services, and companies producing things like hand-sanitizer and face masks running to catch up!

If you find yourself on the side of the stuck at home, killing time crowd, I want to encourage you that now is not the time to slow down, even if you can’t do what it is you usually do! It isn’t the time to get frustrated and wring your hands saying, “Oh no, what am I going to do?” This is the time to get busy doing some important things. This time is an opportunity for you to use your brain and imagination to dream up some new plans and goals.

There is a spirit, or feeling in the air right now, of just waiting to see what’s going to happen when all the dust of this disaster clears. There are two kinds of peoplethe ones who wait for things to happen and the ones who make something happen.

I am one of those crazy kinds of people that keeps going and pressing ahead while others are going into slow gear. For instance, during the holidays, while everyone else is shutting down, I’m out making deals and signing contracts. Sometimes the best time to do things and get ahead of the competition is when others are taking it easy stuffing themselves with turkey!

Life is always offering us opportunities. Sometimes those opportunities come disguised as problems. It’s all about our perspective. If you know me at all, you know I’m all about creating success by bringing things of value to the world and serving others. This is a great time to look at creative ways you can do that.

A Wake-Up Call

If anything, this recent COVID-19 crisis is a wake-up call to all of us that time is precious and you never know how much of it you have left. We need to use our time wisely, not just waste it. We should never waste time, no matter the circumstances – time is our most precious commodity. We need to act with urgency on the important matters of life.

Urgency is an Attitude

Believe me when I tell you that you don’t want to let your life come grinding to a standstill. It is so much harder to get momentum going after that. You need to continue to have an attitude of urgency even if you don’t have any project deadlines right now. Keep pressing on to create progress and productivity in some area of your life.

Having an urgency mindset is desperately needed for staying on top of, and ahead of, ‘the game’ – whatever that game is to you. It might be business, sports, or the entertainment industry, but if you don’t have an attitude of urgently creating, developing and acting on ideas, you’ll get left in the dust.

Well, the rules of the game might have changed drastically at the moment, but don’t stop playing! Make up some new rules if you have to! Don’t go down without a fight! Nobody calls a timeout in your life but you. It’s still the time to stay busy doing the right things, even if you have to find new ways to do them.

Let’s keep gettin’ it!
